21st Century Program

21St Century Afterschool Programs:

Project HEROES supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as complement their regular academic programs; and offers adult/family services and other educational services to the families of participating children.

GED:

A General Education Diploma program is available for students who have failed to earn their high school diploma. Pre-GED and GED classes are offered at the Community Education Center by certified teachers at two different time slots in our district.
GED is broken down into five separate sections: Language Arts, Writing; Social Studies; Science; Language Arts, Reading; and Mathematics. Two of the exam sections have two parts: Language Arts, Writing and Mathematics. While most of the test is multiple choice questions, the Language Arts, Writing section requires that you write an essay. The Mathematics section of the GED allows you to use a calculator (provided) for Part I, but you can't use the calculator in Part II.

Time slots:  8:00 – 12:00 noon Monday – Friday, and 5:30 –7:30 Monday – Thursday

Life Skills for Student Parents Program:

The goal of the Life Skills Program for Student Parents grant is to reduce high school dropout rates, increase high school graduation rates, and enhance parenting skills for students who are pregnant or parents and at risk of dropping out of school.  The program is open to Junior High, High School students and GED students and offers daycare for the children of these students.
