Science Fair Family Night

Share Your Christmas!

On Friday, December 4 the Martin Elementary Student Council represented their school at the
annual "Share Your Christmas" drive held at the HEB in Robstown.  The drive is an annual
event sponsored by KIII TV News.  The student council members were able to collect 940 canned goods
that were delivered to the HEB trailer.  After their performance at HEB, the students were treated to
pizza, apples, and a drink!!

Martin Elementary would like to thank all their students, as well as their parents,
for all their donations.

Honoring Our VETS!

A Veteran's Day ceremony was held at Martin Elementary on Wednesday, November 11 at the school cafeteria to honor local veterans in our community.  The Gifted and Talented students were featured in the program as they paid tribute to our vets.  After the ceremony a reception was held in their honor at the library.

A display of pictures, flags, and soldiers' uniforms helped display the pride for our veterans. The veterans line up for their entrance into the cafeteria as the program begins.
Third and fourth grade GT students perform a short skit entitled "What Is A Veteran?".  Shown here are: Nora B, Daniel P., Nadya V, Hannah P, Thomas G, Meagan C, Brianna B, Taylor P, and Andrew W along with Mrs. S. Olivarez, GT Teacher Mrs. Cueva, Principal  presented each veteran with a Care Package that was assembled especially for them from our staff members.

 

Mr. M. Medrano, is proud to represent Ben W. and Raul M. at the  ceremony. Taylor P. is proud of her young cousin, Eloy Gamez, who is in the Marines and will be deployed to Iraq soon.
Students who brought in their veteran sat with them at the end of the ceremony as they sang God Bless the USA The choir entertained the crowd as they sang several patriotic songs.  They consisted of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade GT students.
Mrs. Cueva, her father Veteran Librado Vasquez Sr. and his grandson Dante Vasquez. The 2nd Grade GT students recited an Acrostic Poem that spelled out VETERANS. Shown here are: Delanie M, Andrew R, Ryan C, Romeo R, Melina R, Angel S, Filiberto T, and Jared P.
There was plenty of patriotism in the crowd as students waved flags and wore red, white, and blue. Liza Elizondo plays TAPS during the Moment of Silence as Mrs. Cueva listens.
The G.T. sang patriotic songs entitled:  Pledge of Allegiance, Thank a Veteran, and God Bless the USA
Christopher T. from Mrs. G. Garza's 4th grade class proudly shows a display of a flag his father sent the school while he is in Afghanistan.  SSG Carlos Torres, of the US Army, is serving in the Middle East. The veterans enjoyed sharing stories while at the reception held in their honor at the school library.
It was an honor to have our veterans share this day with us!!

Grandparents On Campus

 

Martin Elementary held Grandparents On Campus on Friday, Sept. 25.  The school held a reception in their honor at the school cafeteria where they were allowed to sit and visit with their grandchild and other grandparents.  The Parent Involvement helped with refreshments.

 

 

Hispanic Heritage Month

Fourth Grade students from Mrs. G. Garza's class helped to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month during the month of September.  Pictured is Mrs. Garza demonstrating how to create an Ojo de Dios to her class.  Mrs. E. Flores, Teacher Asst. assisted the students as they worked on their projects.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Another project to help commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month at Martin Elementary was the Family Pinata project.
Our students, along with their parents, created a family pinata as part of a homework assignment. 
Although the project was optional, many families joined in the fun.

The pinatas were evaluated by outside judges who judged them on the basis of
creativity, originality, and level of difficulty.

2008--2009

Storybook Character Parade

Martin Elementary held a Storybook Character Parade on November 20 to highlight characters that students read about.  The parade began on the south end of the school and went around the front of the school and headed towards Central Office Administration.  Students and staff members had a great time dressing up as their favorite storybook characters.  Characters included in the student dress up were: Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Harry Potter, Star War Storm Troopers, Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus, Raggedy Ann, Sister Bear from the Berenstein Bears, The Cat in the Hat, and many, many more.
