all right and then you can pause it right here I gotta mention hello everyone 11 yes I did you want to do it start I'm gonna go ahead and start hello everyone I'm Miss Chavez the district nurse Welcome to our third of the Year this 1 is going to be a little short and sweet um we have a lot of people out today due to various things that are happening in our schools and in our community at this time so um we're going to do the best that we can we got food and we got everyone that I had invited here today I appreciate you I'm going to hand the microphone off to Mr wpas our Shack president good morning 1 of the thank you for coming and hopefully you pass the word out to speak to your friends whenever we have chat meetings and partake and learn and share okay this is the end of the game sharing and doing the city and for the country anyway before I get too far out Valentine Day Is Right remember that so men need to do that for the women and women need to do that for me to from part or something from Jamie or something but Valentine's Day is Friday uh before I go any further I want to recognize Melissa Chavez and my wife was not here yet Works receiving from the school board and the administration the bigger award this week um it's been a while since my daughter my my wife got 1 so she works at so anyway she did receive the bigger award and Eliza J received the figure award and there was a great undertaking and uh we have a good school district and we're trying to do better by the day okay so it's very important for that to be a member again uh I I'm the president of sh and I've been president for the number of years anybody wants my job the raise your hand and sign up and we'll do we'll do something with it um I probably is gender the agenda is here um the first presenter to today and um jilda Bella you want to come up here and just within a few education at Texas A&M angry life extension so let's welcome my name is Elder been nice and familiar faces here I do teach nutrition classes on the community where many Oasis County um I've worked with aggro life extension services but 13 years uh the name of our program is called expanded food and nutrition education program or short we call it ethnic and we are located at 4639 Corona Street in Corpus Christi but again we go anywhere in the Oasis County so we're not limited to this currently and right now I am teaching I think this land that's okay I think we're okay you know I here right um currently I'm teaching at San Pedro session so uh next week we'll be doing lesson number 3 our curriculum is called a healthy bites healthy move it has 8 different sessions 8 different lessons that we teach each 1 has an enhancement we give out my plate posters we give out measuring cups the liquid and the dry cups we give out cutting boards we give out thermometers digital thermometers mechanics that have the temperatures of the meat so that you welcome to the proper temperature to kill that bacteria that sparkle for us we also give out some uh code use brushes and all these enhancements when we give them out with the different lessons it's the the the participants can actually practice what they learned throughout that week then when they come back we review what we the biggest week and then we go over the goal because every lesson does have a goal and along with a goal they also have a recipe that we put together so that they can uh practice even cutting techniques we do that or whatever it may be but you need to promote a lot of vegetables fruits whole grains and the protein uh we do really good having a lot of protein and and carbs and and uh uh some Dairy but we don't do very good having vegetables and fruits and that's throughout the whole Oasis County so our big promotion are more vegetables and food so FYI for you guys look at your plate and your plate doesn't have color that means that you don't have vegetables on your plate okay so always look into place and see if it has color and it doesn't have color open the can of corn or a category of beans whatever you may have at home so that you can get color to your plate and we also promote like for children to always have also color on your face because if you don't serve your children color on their plate they're going to grow up to be adults that don't eat vegetables and believe me I have a lot of those so we want you to to add incorporate more fruits and vegetables into the the meals that you all put together okay I'm going to teaching to you guys I'm sorry that's just that's just nature I guess but yeah we want you to have color on your plane and it's so very important for all of us to have the vegetables and remember when we were kids they would tell us eat your vegetables first there was a reason for that is that fiber in the vegetables expands in our stomach when it expands in our stomach you start getting Fuller with less calories now the only thing is is when our brain is telling us you're full stop eating we need to start listening and that's a little hard to do especially in food is super good so for those of you that have already been in my classes before and uh for those of you that are in my class right now I thank you all and I appreciate you all very very much and I would love to come back to all the schools here at Ros down uh School District uh we can go into the high schools and we can go into the middle schools and Junior highs and Elementary and primaries wherever you all want it will be there we are totally free we provide everything that is needed all we need from you guys are participants human beings that are willing to commit to at least 6 weeks for our program so with that said like I said earlier uh we are at San Pedro instead I just saw you right now we are at San Pedro so I appreciate appreciate that I've been to Long Beach I've been to Driscoll uh middle Elementary I think I've been to the 1 across the street artist Ortiz yes um but I would like to go into the high school for the parents there and I teach the adults I do have 2 co-workers that teach the youth so it's really great when we are both at the same school at the same time because and these are comments that parents have made to me when I have a parents and they say oh yeah when I go shopping my kid that we put so does it in car in the basket anymore because they tell me they're high in sugar and they also get taught how to read the nutrition facts label which is something that I also do for the parents so they learned that and uh they they do uh we are are on the lookout when cameras go grocery shopping and they go within so with that said uh I don't know what else I have a question yes so how long are you um how long is the program the program is 8 weeks and every time that they meet with me they do get a with it goes along with that lesson they get an enhancement they redo the recipe together they get a copy of the recipe and it's usually from an hour to an hour and a half depending how involved the parents are how they're participating and then my other question is um the diet so you like specify like do you help like let's say a parent like I heard your conversation earlier with the parent volunteers um her mom had an issue like discuss like what can be like purified if if our if our parents are having problems swallowing I we I did not teach anything specific as far as what I teach is basic nutrition to get them to make get them to eat more of the 5 Foods it's a whole 5 food groups best friends is what I say because they all need each other in order for the body to absorb all the nutrients so if they change their eating habits just by having a balanced meal daily in every meal then guess what they're going their body is going to be healthier however we do have assisted programs that do specific specified on certain areas that really diabetes we can we can give them that information after we finish our series and I give them a a list of programs that aggro life also has for specific followers going uh problems that they may have okay and you mentioned cutting technique like we're Foodies and we like to cook so I know the girls and I would like to go so the knife the knife usually has a curve right when you that can't that little curve on that handle is there for a purpose it's for you to put your index finger right there and then you're going to hold it closer to the the blade right a lot of us do this to put pressure on that knife and that's not control of your knight you actually have to have that index finger right on that curve to have the control of the blade whenever you're cutting and we do teach with that's actually session number 6 it is called sharpen your skills and we teach you about the recognize the different job and the different techniques cutting techniques for them and in that lesson it's really really good because we also teach you about the nutrients and what the uh the purpose of that nutrient is and the fruits and vegetables that are stronger in nutrients all fruits and vegetables have fiberglass they provide fiber for us however some of them are stronger in fiber than others and what happens still the other gel Del uh dive as far as like uh maybe telling someone how much protein they need to or maybe how much depending on so what we talk about is a 2,000 calorie meal plan and we give you the measurements for that 2,000 calorie meal and session number 2 is called my plate my family and that's where we talked about all the 5 food groups and that's where we learn how many calories you need as an individual but all of my measurements that I'm going to talk about throughout the sessions is based on a 2000 calorie meal plan and I'll tell you 2 and a half cups of vegetables 2 cups of food 3 cups of your Dairy 5 and a half thousands of your protein 6 oz of your brains making capitals houses whole grain so yeah that's what I will be talking about um and what about like teaching them to like um read the labels read the labels session number 5 less more learn to read the label what percentage to say uh that say for you or healthier for you it would be between 5% and 20% on the percent daily value when it gets 20% or more on the nutrients that are on the top of the target facts or sodium your carbs and all that those we want you to stay away from 20% or more because they're too high but I always say even if you are healthy and you want and it's closer to 20 I would stay awake because we want to remain healthy so it's between 5 and 20 and it's called moderate and then make 5% or less it's great on those nutrients but on the bottom nutrients you want them to be 20% or more because those are your your good nutrients those are your calcium your your uh iron your potassium and and all that so those we want them to be that's awesome we do teach and we do have a little pain it's a green pen and you pull it out and it has a nutrition facts label on there in English and Spanish oh by the way our classes are in English and Spanish so we have Spanish speaking people that come and do that not the best Spanish that I have but you know what I get the message across 1 day out of the week uh the my my contact person will pick the the time and if it's available on my calendar I go for it yeah I've heard a lot of you Peter over there right you got them over there you have the they're always cooking everywhere I go they're all too I tell you what I see a lot of veggies a lot of times so they do good anybody else quick question the majority of Americans are on a 2000 or should be on a 2000 no no not for me for men it's usually a lot more I don't know why you all are privileged but they have better metabolism that's for sure thank you so much for coming into our school yes the high school the high school yes definitely I never been to the high school really don't know well you're gonna come this year okay usually I exactly I would like the staff from the RS we do went up and introduce yourself to people who know who you are you start on this side all right is the extent the other District new to our district welcome beautiful what you say anyone else here I need staff members know well we have Melissa there is an important for we also have some some dignitaries what are you talking about no good morning now this morning sorry going to be you know anybody else that uh 80% okay now the next presenter percenters and not here right you want to come up here and I also have okay okay we have a little presentation important relationship not the relationship spray that on and care it is important part you have a whole our students who are in the health science field are in 1 day be those people helping other patients and supporting them and they have have that information and you have to kind of speak very and they have to show them that their trustworthy relationships matter from each other to kind of get out of it about presentation very important few months ago there sports relationship so I'm trying to get okay so before I get into the M language I know that mentioning in relationship it might motivate them and how they act I know I see them in class and we hear from certain students and it does reflect on their performance sometimes they don't want to be 1 teachers who are able to build that relationship and gain that trust they're able to ask more from so like in my area so I work with eighth grade all the way up I'm not the instructor for Delmar but because I do see them so often build relationships in the first 2 levels only because it helps us that's where they are having to work with each other and so it helps that they learn that sense of trusting each other and all that um as far as what what they see as children that's what they put out so at home if they see healthy relationships they're more likely to also engage in companies they sometimes don't know how to quote they don't know how to act they don't know how to communicate so it does affect them so I included them online people are not always aware that there there are certainly The Way We Grow we learn what kind of enjoy like what was it it was like that for us so I mean some of the Love Languages we have words of affirmation which could be verbal written compliments right you they get a sense of oh they are um like appreciate me right I love seeing the dishes being washed I will cook but I wash the dishes so he's like go for it physical presence all the time maybe your attention to another person active listening time for the love 1 receiving gifts excuse me enjoy surprise gift symbols of thoughtfulness and effort I mean once you are able to see what your love language you kind of know what to look for and it also helps your partners help your children I see my kids at they know that I don't want to have to tell them to clean their room so they seen the rooms I'm like oh my God that's my active service showing what my cover that so I mean when we're able to like understand what our love languages and others understand with parents are I mean it helps everyone grow up together our students see that they bring that to school and then they carry that in their career that I mean if they're working with patients where they're at but ultimately our relationship thank you and any College and you're gonna walk to the back I always tell him you don't know anybody it doesn't matter if you sit in the front teachers and I know you're fixed you might not know you in college it's different you're just in number so I tell them to sit in the front and you raise your hand and you ask questions I know you've heard this before ask questions because I'm pretty sure the person behind you wants to know the same thing you're shy you don't really want to whatever but building that relationship I made him go talk to his Professor uh you know during your office hours you get to know your professor once you're there your professor gets to not only know you know about you know your name that could make the difference between that 79.4 and just because they know you and because they remembered your name so I know a lot of us like start a class the new teacher and sometimes you know all of us are going through sometimes your teacher has bad days too um if you need something you need to vocalize it right like you were talking about you know Sports it's so important sometimes coaching restricting mean how do you like get to know them how do you develop what what do you think what would you what advice would you give a student to do get better and they love to hear that and that's what we call this because I'm like you don't want to put a sport or not want to play anymore just because you don't have a relationship talk to them you can't ask them questions like vocalize it and then more likely they're going to be willing to help you come up with some solutions to help it's just a matter of me being able to speak up and I feel like a lot of my students decide to have sometimes like they like right here she will ask me as many questions as she needs to until she understands that and that's what some students they're afraid to do they don't want to speak for their best because all the other students are going to judge them for advocating questions right so I mean once they feel that comfort and if that's not just the relationships with their peers also knowing I'm not going to be judged or I am helping someone else really important it's so important and like as it I mean I used to teach the nursing program and I loved you know students that come up to me and they're nice but how do you do this or Miss can you show me this and and this I got this going on and and Miss can you help me with this and it's like you just right away you make that connection and then everybody has different needs and so it's so important that you know like you're so special you guys are are going out into the world and you're going to represent Robstown ISD and then all of us whoever had a moment in your lives so when you go out there you do amazing things it's a reflection of us and so we're so proud of you I'm so proud of you that you guys come up here and share these thoughts and I really appreciate that thank you it's a champion just want to thank everybody for attending here so thank you so much I see that we also have city council here so it's where employees and all those we're here today thank you so much all the way to the top of the nation about the teacher and the coach hey the coach has a duty to relate to you too the teacher or the counselor whoever may be there's the 2-way thing it's not just the 1-way thing you all are equal in terms of education and we all are different we have different ideas so you cannot just that we're going to be in everything you cannot do that but just try to reach some kind of area where we can work together so get that in mind you don't have to agree with it normally but it is something that you have to work at let me change it by the way I motion is for changing day-to-day moving by minute hour by hour so keep that in mind but relationships are tough and not just for the young folk and you got to be good enough but the older like me a lot they're going up we're all going to that's important and it's a bit very difficult okay that are our nursing daughter wow come on I'll make 1 more comment because I know that I've already been hearing about the school because we do know that that issue that has arrived um and speaking on relationship like I've had to remind my students as we're talking about these relationships they do have coaches teachers mentors who have inspired them and have motivated them so I have had to remind them do not feel like the situation finds all we do have those who have pushed us to become who we are um regardless of what gender it is and um so I mean looking past that I cannot Define like who they are and what they're trying to be the success it can be frowned upon and that's why I want I really want to tell them if you have any experiences someone who has helped you have strategy because I know a lot of these I brought here they are athletes they have accomplished a lot of achievement they are very involved in multiple sport so I had to tell them if you're proud if someone when you like I asked him who inspired you to be a successful who got you that that far who made you receive those Championship Awards who won with your friends want to get your family the teammates and a lot of them said do it with my coach my coach pushed me to see the card my first person to reach my full my full ability and so I mean with with that like with us being with the news and like body part of it's a very hard tough subject because our students they want to trust their staff they want to trust our culture they want to know that everything's in their best interest so I mean as far as like the relationship so it is very important that we do understand where we are stand without doing it but also don't not want to like acknowledge the people who have got them to where they are to scale because we do have a way to do we do have some coaches like that is not a representation of family situations but it doesn't like take away the internal Awards and all the accomplishments that our students have gotten our relationship and all that it's really is important I am so proud of everything that we have faced in the last 2 weeks um as a staff member in our school we pulled together when someone's sick we pulled together when someone's gone to something we've had you know food raised food for this family and and you know held each other and prayed for this family and then all these things um last week was hard and it was still sad and that's why a lot of our administrators are out supporting you know family right now um something that you think as a parent when you go through something you I don't know if nurses we're just impacts I think we put ourselves in shoes and we think what I think everybody thinks of and I see that here how that okay so please come closer you work with us you know just being there for the kids that come through the line and kind of carrying out that smile that thing we're here for you um city council thank you for everything that you all do and helping the schools and whatever that we need um it's been an amazing like I can't explain it um it's just it's just so beautiful to see but with that being said our counselors our social workers they're available 24/7 like what school has that you know or parents even just want to reach out and just have some warrants with them or just need gosh if you just need prayer Christian pray with you you know little the little issues um it's just it's just the following that needs to be said if you are professional you hold a position anywhere any Council Boulevard the teacher here wherever you are at you have a responsibility to act your part and you contribute there's no excuses for them and it's a student the student that we have the family that are here they also need to help to make this better it's not just a 1-sided thing but when you're putting you're interested in a conversation and it's School District you need to act your part there's no excuse there is no excuses that we are not perfect fragile okay but uh we cannot let things go back and it just goes all the way to the very top of the United States of America okay people cannot be excused from being stupid and we need to be held accountable thank you and we need to ask the part I don't care whether you out their neighborhood or not I would read or Dr Blanca whatever they need you need to make sure that you're heard and that groups get done for the betterment of the whole Community Justice for All okay uh announcing gonna make let me admit our next presenter and listen to the next presenter how about that that that kind of how you doing sir text yeah we're gonna try again person yeah I guess the go ahead microphone yeah just 1 Thing good morning to all of you here um I was been trying to think what can move the brain to all the stuff as well as teachers and family uh I did a survey we started a survey about 2 months ago and the survey that we put had a low participation so in other words about a 25 the very low number and we was hoping to get more input from the students so we'll know exactly which all right which you don't like what you would like to see what you don't like to see so that we can start off maybe having a better program for our menus into the election so I'm just going to go over a few of them just just to let you know it says do you find the pool of killing some said yes is what you like to do with the second package for property 1 fresh fruit would you like to say some says strawberry and pineapple what may untrace would you like to see some said Chinese what you like to see something that was 1 it says what you like to see more grab to go I said yes what you like to see in the coming the very more options and more stuff to buy during lunch now that sound like something is coming from the high school and that's okay because we this is another 1 says you've got the approval of yes what would you like to see don't let you what brings true would you like to see strawberry and pineapple was my entree would you like to see let's nachos and more other food which is fine but I need to know what those other foods are so this is why it's so important that I get the input input I get the data so I don't know exactly what it is that you would like to see if that's going to cause you to get up to come and take a look and take an opportunity to hear the food okay what fresh vegetable would you like these some sake character I don't know how many people like caring but there is a way that you can fix it with him more appealing a lot of people don't like that kind of food that um how do you like your food items on the menu says I like them so what's breakfast like pancakes and sausage you know we have certain things that we have we got a 2500 students only or participate so the numbers is low the percentage is low and we want to see have isolated on the staff want to see if we get more participation in references only let me know what if you want to have on the on the because we're trying to create a new venue and when our change happen play you should see some hot wings on your manage coming up you should have seen chicken fried steaks on on your on your that came up you know or some I think there was some things that we put in the minutes but we still need more information so I actually think that um you as a director can maybe get when like we can the way we meet and we huddle with admin would there be a way that maybe we could introduce it to the schools and maybe like give it to the teachers to do like a day of a survey day like real quick it wouldn't take very long I talked to this have a day and talk to her and I will try to meet with the principal if I can meet with the principal but talked about them yesterday we want to do a survey so we get a little bit more better than trying to look at and say okay uh this is what I like what I don't like because if we do it for campus we may get more teachers in the principles involved and the kids more involved on the level so the support exists I went to we had sliced out along with the entree so uh 1 kid came soon he came back he said I want some uh great stuff you didn't know it was it looks again and he was he wasn't paying so I bought him 1 but he had to do 1 thing he had a ton of shoes on so now the young lady came to them you know same thing you I buy you I buy you but that triple down the 5 maybe 2 6 of the kids came back 1 of the same thing we didn't have enough and 1 came back the second just that little change to make a difference if we know if they just write it down let us know give us the name but we can put we can implement we can put these things on the General on the on the on the menu we just got to make sure that we still comply with the yes I had a student that enjoyed the jello with the Mandarin or jello with peaches or a diabetics they discount calories without the carbs and that's the other thing that we have to be more uh up against about the calories I came from a district that's 1 of the things that I always stayed in contact with the nurses to make sure that those kids had a certain point until some of them had was so you know where I come from I was just talking I have had kids in my district that I had and 2200 characters that we supposed to have on a daily basis versus 2200 most of the men will take but it's all about the intake and what they eat and so forth so it's very important that we have to pay very close and I like this new program that we use them because it gives the parents and the teachers and the nurses opportunity to look at what the kids input on they can go and they can calibrate to see how much that kid is not going over or still the choices that we may have for their care to be able to eat so we do have to watch our sodium level we have to watch our carbohydrates we have to watch I transfer it back so we have to watch a lot of you know a lot of things on the menu that hopefully that is the following complaint when everything that we have to do so right now we are going to administrative review so if they're going to come in and they're gonna check everything that we do for Rockstar Food Service uh in in Child Nutrition department so they're gonna check our measures check our Revenue they're gonna check everything go to the line check the school check breakfast lunch and stuffer there's gonna checking to make sure that we are complying so we continue to get uh our funds free so it's very important and we just trying to do everything we can to meet the deadlines and try to make sure that we have all the right information that we incorporate to them so that the program was still stay alive and that all that came to 153 so what we would like to see is more participation from our students we need more of that of options that they may have they may not know well you know great watermelon and some of them some of them right but we want to that's what we want you to people yeah I want I want them to tell me and it might be a little time but the idea is that we I'm thinking like Elementary they might not know how to spell no no we just want to hear about because our kids in the third grade write me out a list and tell me that's what I like to this is what I want on the menu and that's okay but the reality yes sir you say that you have a a low return on your surveys if you try asking the my parents their parents what their children like to eat at home I'm sure all of the parents that are here or grandparents know what their grandkids are children eat at home but they prefer to eat at home maybe go from there from from but the parents parent recommend well that that would have also you would get a higher percentage on your surveys responses on your surveys right to do that so when we break it down for campus yeah we want we want the parents to get involved we want to know because like I said uh uh some kids that have a special diet I try to meet with that that family member because sometimes we can't do everything completely the way they want it but we can assist the helping that child make a lot of decision or about what they can either what they can do so at least try to create a menu so at least we can get some input because if I say okay you take this premium home and you when you let me know if your child cannot eat and we'll try to get you you know have at least try to grate some on that menu at that job because we have some kids don't eat meat so we can accommodate that child we will come with a job if we can but we need to know that that child is that we have some kids that is lactose intolerant and we don't know that child is lactose intolerant we can't help that child but we didn't know about it then we can assist that child with that situation to be in power but we need to have is all it is what I'm saying is we got to have communication and that's something like when we lived in the valley and Lucas was a junior high there in Edinburgh um he came get the money today I'm and I'm like okay like how many can you get and then it was a this you know things that you know of course each region each culture right but then I'm thinking we have to stay healthy some point you have to look at all the numbers in the food and how much you can serve and well we have that's that's the bottom line we have to do that I know folks don't have the food is not the best food so we're trying to do best we can to make as much as presentable as possible and it might not be that everybody's liking to release want to put something out there that they will eat and not go home hungry you know we don't want that and then we also have supplementals as well and that's something supposed to have those you know time open and get home so sometime the parents might not have enough time to fix them so when they try to come back well I see that 1 being utilized a lot like I see kids with after school with their meals and that's awesome thank you I have Tinder in the fifth graders so my fifth grader gets to choose a different like if he doesn't like what they're serving in the line he can choose you know something like Kinder a lot of times if I don't keep her up something or center with that she won't eat she doesn't mind so I know that a lot of times like the the bigger grades get like the yogurt with the cheese and stuff that something new they're doing if something like that could be offered to the little ones like where they at least get 1 other option than just whatever's being served because a lot of the babies won't don't eat the apple if there's an apple on their plate and get their milk and they won't eat anything else so if there was at least 1 other option like a yogurt with the cheese and my baby would be in heaven with that and I just brought that in the yogurt place the yoghurt the cheese stick along with and even my son my fifth grader when they do offer that he loves that like you just have to automobile a lot of it because it can be very popular I used to fix over 200 of those a day just because my and it's a good thing because they meet all the requirements for the government and then they comply with the you know with so we have that we can we can do it I just have 1 more question with you uh the highest our high school does utilize Google Classroom a lot and we need to move customer we have election residents and all that and we do make it mandatory and for a department you'd be like a English in fact every English class will offer it so that way they see all the student body that way it is like brought to all of our students and it it is easier for them to access on their computers and then you get the results right away but I mean when you do bring it to the high school like that is I'll give Miss Katrina with that because we did talk about this briefly trying to find some way to to reach more opportunities get a little bigger audience so we can get more I know you'll get a lot of input from the high school student because they voiced it a lot actually that's 1 of the right now and so I did see the survey in there but I never got a chance to ever do it or if I look at it because there's like a whole bunch like other oh yeah your cohort they get a lot of notifications on testing and dates and I got to it will get dropped down and there's so that's what I'm saying and I'm going to specific that period it'll be easier for them to say okay um third period because I know our third period zip up the important because of the tenant have a little bit more time so this is why I'm reaching out because I need to know and I want to know how get to Market to participate get their opinion so that way we can get them on and have a good day can I get you have yes sir call me you put your ideas before I forget no I'm not the local pediatrician and uh can I let me tell what the the journey is uh usually at the in the first year of life okay uh kids are exponentially growing like this right after from 1 to 5 this is when we get uh off the rail right so to speak is uh from from 1 from the in the first year the growth rate is like this from 1 to 5 some of these kids will go 3 to 5 month without growing or without gaining any way why because the growth rate is declined and this this this is the this period where a lot of the parents make little mistakes because of the environment and and the way we would we grew up eating right so we know we don't need as many calories so guess what happened well you know what they're not eating as much and you have aita they go what just give them to the if you come to the biology becomes the total right the candy the cookie okay instead of giving them those what is the the the best option and we always say just take it to the park if you want to be really involved with your grandkids pick them to the park Opera fruits vegetables so we want to give them good options because growth rate guess what happened sir because of growth rate effective they go through what they call the appetite sign and then guess what if they get into the school what what happens they're eating they want to see and they want to continue that so we we need to do its kind of change that around a little bit and we need to kind of continue offering good healthy foods I know what happens when they get to school right so you give them good health and the boot sits here right that's what you're kind of like insinuating so we need to kind of go but we need to kind of like continue offering some of that and and teach them and maybe make sure that we TT's kids and his parents what they're you know what they the kids become what they consume their body will be consuming we don't want to have we have too many diets too many diabetics in our city I did 1 year Adult Medicine where I was I was helping the surgeons cut off blades and cut off blades and then and then transitioning to dialysis and then some of these young kids or young parents who lose their rights back we need to kind of prevent those things and we need to continue to offer good and I know good healthy fruits are expensive you know which 1 the the best 1 the best blueberry all the best avocado excellent brain food uh tuna salmon expensive so uh we need to kind of maybe educate and say you know what instead of cooking with vegetable olive oil a little bit more expensive a little bit more but it's very hard to actually but but if that what I'm trying to say is that those are those are things that we need to kind of somehow incorporate and that's the what we're teaching our parents to do we call that the 9520 backwards and vegetable today be fruits to vegetables or vice versa so just something to consider before I go any further but there's some folks that came in late my wife is there Cody I wanna make sure that I okay what do you quite a bit of money into opening up the boards Billboards club and he was gonna say what he's doing and briefly I like the parking lot about being briefed I mean Brittany say what what he's doing what he's doing what are the plans quickly thank you Dr Edward Orchard man I could be here all day but that's what got in trouble we had a conference in the valley but now let me let me tell you what we're in a it's something unfortunately this happened about 8 years ago the old boys and girls and 1 of my parents had approached me and did you know that they're closing the club what so I don't know if anybody here with 2 or worse in attendance but I I went in and I just heard with the the representative the the Chairman's I could say and they were just well I don't know what it was and I was trying to do the what to not succeed and uh so we did that and it was on a lot of like maybe the city was in coordinating or or the schools or it wasn't it wasn't bad it wasn't just kind of like that leadership on their part okay because the the programs and the pay date went they were always full providing services and stuff I mean because there'll be changes yes but let me let me uh with that said let me tell you what we're doing okay and what we we're going to do we're going to do something better and and and I actually let them know how come here keeping telling you're going to London for district you're going to Rockport you're going to rent it back you're going to be they're hoping not always and they're leaving here they had lost their medical their their chairman which is based in the building and and now somebody took over and and the program went down and they closed it but we're going to open up so we made an agreement with the county the County's helping us out we're going to provide the multipurpose building which is the building to the right if you're on Augusta the right that's going to serve many purposes it's a multi-purpose uh when it when it's cold and freezing and and we have homeless we're going to be able to provide because we can't use it at that time because it's freezing and it's cold outside so we're going to do a warming Center and then when it's hot we're going to make it a cooling level and we're going to work with the fire department and we're going to make it a command center as well there's a hurricane with with both things that we're doing we're able to kind of apply for Harper which is during Co there was some monies and the county had been working with uh building a soccer league for 5 years with Dr wadis and other people and uh and so uh but we applied so we knew that there was some grants so that the county we applied for the grant and we got the grant it was 650,000 and 50,000 go to the contractor and as we speak if you go by their the multi-purpose GC uh they're gutting it out redoing a lot of stuff that was broken and and they're putting in new chlorine they put in their new paint and we doing that so they're doing that so that's where that money comes in I put it in right now we have operating funds and we're fine we I hired a grant writer and we've applied for I don't know so far about 100 maybe like 500,000 and you don't get that to maybe Take 5 months 6 months some of them and it comes in stages so uh I've already put in about 200 money and we're probably going to get to maybe 500 over time and then uh that's Phase 2 and that's the gem okay that we're doing the the roof needed a new a roof because it was leaking and you don't want any leaks you know what happens at home then you you start the floor starts to warm the wall starts to to kind of mold stuff right so you don't want that happening so it needed the new route that was 100,000 okay so we that's already been completed now we can go inside and uh we're going to place the bleacher so we're broken and there's the wall padding that was coming off and uh now we're going to be recoloring the floors okay so that's going to take some money too we're going to be doing basketball again volleyball after school programs and we're going to do camps hopefully this summer hopefully so I'm the timeline right we get all the programs going we're going to have all that for adults anybody quite think about here anybody's might think about I guarantee you within the next 5 years the majority of the rooms are going to be quite big of all it is man it is a phenomenal all over the the country I just spoke to Jason Greene was he he was the the uh what is the the paragraph director and he moved to New York and his dad who died well he took over the orthopedic group that develop 40,000 foot building pickle ball bars and stuff oh my God jampack 4 Athletic Club jamback pool the line chart uh I don't know if that's operational but they're going to have pickle ball pickle ball is a hybrid between tennis and ping pong and and it's fun easy to pick up they play with a whip ball we're gonna have that back to the adults and kids that's where families get together so and Driscoll my commitment money um for with department for we'll know in in April we do some just want to let you know what's up ahead so things are going good okay that's going to keep our uh our kids active they go after school here's what Petty is right there the junior high is right there it's like when you walk into the center for the parents are uh at work they get picked up safely all these kids are going to have a little badge they'll have the picture of the that'll have the the picture of the top that way we can kind of connect them together and every time the child comes in they'll have a profile so the kid comes in and we'll ask him scale from 1 to 10 Joy right 1 depression or we'll be doing uh we'll check blood pressures we'll do everything initially not every single time but every 3 months we'll track that and we'll accept that we're going to study this and we're going to submit so the dress code so they know they're they're getting their Bank to the butt right so they want to be good result a healthy community and that's basically what it is now the program is why we start the programs we're going to the way we do things instead of parents yelling at their kids how many of you see witness that where a lot of these kids are playing football right and then and they get the what happens to a child psychologically it gets scary and they and then instead of paying attention and and guess what they have fun well we're going to put the fun back into the court you know when you put the fun back in the sport there's a little uh substance called dopamine up here you know what dopamine does joy Mega Joy we can't not when you yell at a child what kind of you see the movie Inside Out what is the experience and dying anger oh my God I'm gonna get it when I get home right we don't want that the coaches we're gonna change the the direction it's all going deposit positive positive somebody is yelling we have a program that I helped Driscoll start it's called the triple p we're going to be implementing uh we have Johnny wants to come back uh uh Johnny's mom or dad need to take this program in order to come back and you know what you're changing you're changing the approach you're changing the bullies The Bullying issue that we have right 1 family at a time so those are things that we're we're going to be working on but I need everybody I mean everybody is going to take the village right so it's taking the county they're taking kind of like thousands of business they're taking the city uh uh is allowed us to use the facilities and we're actually investing in Crystal hospital going to be involved and I've got a port that's going to be involved I've got a lot of businesses that I'll tell you later I'm going to be and that's contacting right now before I got here I was talking to somebody on the phone so so thank you so much for I just want to give you an update okay actually doing it the bus stops when you put things in the time that we have give me an update on the start to the board we received our pin set of our public gate weapon detection systems I I don't like calling a metal detectors because I like calling your phone a calculator it is way more than that but that's what most people get whenever we put that they say we'll get them to every campus but uh we're in our fit set right now uh we are still having our idas our computer technology from the service center where they come and check our outside doors our inside doors and our door through data to make sure we're checking them the way we're supposed to under Texas requirements um so we just track that any kids in your classroom any uh the door can be locked there should be no outside prompting of doors um if you look into a different room that's not over the costume we made in the classroom so that door needs to be closed in the bottom um so just be aware of that we uh also becoming we are adding interfacing for safety at the high school we were a couple weeks out we were just waiting for our supplies and equipment uh the big 1 we've really working on is with the city we've uh the city's reviewing right now the cost to repaint all of our truck blocks uh we're also working closely uh with the PD because they are budgeted for the signage so they'll also reviewing the signage on our on our school zones um myself and also of course I wish I could have brought it with me uh we've been working closely with text Dot because we're looking into a grant with sidewalks at last Beach something about uh 13 approximately 30,000 square footage of a sidewalk leaning out of the school so the kids and parents will have a safe way to get off of the campus uh into the women because our last speech um we have a lot of Walkers and Pickups there so that's why we're trying to focus on that and then once we get again this is about my first time working with this kind of Grant so it's a learning experience uh their phases to it but right now we're at the very beginning phase where we just projected to see what we can do so uh last week is a lot to say for and like I said it once we learned that then we can move into our other campuses uh pretty much all my updates unless you have any questions comments thank you I was talking about it for years next right as opposed to work Network I wait the speed limit you know grow your team and go does Google work we uh and those this is a what I already just times I don't know if you know gets affected with the they like I don't know I'm trying to look at them when I go by sometimes they work if they don't then we reach out to them right away to get them worked on uh so we just they're the control those so we're trying to you know stay on them so they can make sure there were people off I don't care what they say that is sort whatever they don't want I mean you got something standing there he doesn't work in something nobody's not doing their job period that's it now I said I need to replace them is there anything else I'm not sure uh yeah basically we uh we had a an intruder audience um when we had the audience they brought us some situation stuff that we so we had to meet basically the state keeps bringing in different things like we have people who check to see if they can get their schools now they've created the district uh photo on your campus you need additional fencing or Camp our high school is really really big and we have really large outside fencing but now they're staying well they want to be safe looks like dressing so we're going to try the scary inside of our schools on the inside they told us we're more or less they built it was most needed using the area where the the the football field site is is that so again we have a little bit of construction to control it but like I said they come you know we learn something new more and more strict more and more uh uh I guess adding requirements to us and they keep changing that but like I said you know with the the boring guidance and support you know we're able to get and I'm with the state funding we're able to adjust to whatever they need how are we going to make it to to make our campus safer because that's the main goal is that you know everybody should come to school to get you want to learn and they have to feel safe to run first and everybody has to go safety here so that's what we're trying to create did you say that the fencing was going to be for the inside not the front of the building no we haven't been to the outside they want more they say because our our high schools are so large that they want additional interference so it'll be towards the back side and that's what I would suggest honestly uh aesthetically and and me as a passer by or say if I was going to go I mean you want the the fencing to be uh maybe not in front of the school but attached to the building of the school like say the high school there's fencing in front it'd be nice to just have it uh to the side and to the back you know what I mean to me it says something why is it in so I'm just I'm just saying thank you because I know they've changed the school like I said I was tell people it's like 3 high schools on top of each other and so we've adjusted have been gone by to utilize the parking the school that we use like I said with the with the state they'll come in 1 week and then next week they're coming they'll tell us we need out there so the next week will come with us and you might want to look into this so we try to adjust the date the question is making all the schools going through it the coming to look and he's the 1 this is what y'all probably need to look at so like I said as long as we see it and we're able to adjust to it you know we try to make it happen so you're doing it for the mass shooting the reaction for all safety we we've seen we've encountered more I know we've tried to prevent constantly you know updating the board issues I did on School District Safety Committee um and he's always with new updates so back to the doctor board I know recently we added some fencing to the high school again if you if you're looking at the high school um initially they were both in to the left they were both into the right you can kind of walk around the building since then added fence from around there so the front is kind of blocked in so the only way to get into the high school would be through the um of course at night we locked you know but if you're going to come in and want to visit the school you can't go in at all through the sides and I think that's what he's kind of getting at but um yeah so every every time you come in they come in every few months it's always something it's always something so um you know for you all parents and constituents you know you just know that when that does come and he does give us that report as the board we are here to support you in any way possible to ensure the safety of our students so top priority and thank you to our chief for up there and of course to all our officers real quick I just want to thank you for how you and your staff have handled again I'm going to go back to handled everything we always feel safe with you guys you guys are approachable and you're there for us and yourself entire team um to talk to events and things love you and staff love you guys appreciate it you know what I'm talking about give me my receipt we will now my wife and my daughter and I went to and I came back to the board was not here yet they come a long way somebody listen I didn't get it done and the bottom line is a safety of everyone in that school so but the board to the action daily basis nothing perfect but these have any feedback on anything that might help us out hey give me give me I had a I guess a question I called in you know the other day the we had a fire drill at Long Beach I'm substitute there is there any way that substitutes could be notified maybe putting something in the classroom because they had to come thankfully it was just a joke knock on the door hey we're having a fire girl if it was a real emergency you can have some classrooms every classroom uh we just getting that together I know the service I think we're going to talk about it at the last substitute uh training that we had uh yeah we're we're that's been minus the iPad the other have something I know like at our school they they do an all call through the phone yes through the new phones yeah we have the new phones I know they're I don't know that they didn't put him all the time because you know the classroom uh but that's what the iPads are going to put in the classroom everything when they check them out when they come into the capitol be checked out iPad and they'll have to add just real quick for transparency purposes we currently pull it up we're still working on it but uh the cohort recently um 200,400,000 that upgrade all the phones with throughout the high school um and the junior high I know that our intercom system was you know kind of old at the Junior High um now we've updated all the speakers throughout the the campus the high school the same thing now they have they're going to be adding a outside um updating all the phones um they're going back to that you know all campuses will be up to date with the the communication so that's going in the works I think right now the high schools are going to take me a little bit because of the different buildings um but everything will be should be updated and acknowledgement will be up to date and then Chief would get like Gonzales to that and the phone you know I have a panic button you call that 1 from those phones it will tell us what classroom what school a couple of them have gone off so we've had they do work so exact location where it goes like like if I I'll get the address all our classroom where they're at with school and it's pretty quick and like I said Pio calls to the radio so it all happens really fast but it's pretty accurate it's pretty good like I said so pretty much every class that they push the red button they're going to call me they're going to call us and we're going to go take care of it but I mean I don't know I think I think I guess like those phones are really impressive got are and it takes an old person like me a couple of days to learn them yeah yeah I do want to finish off with help um my nursing department I just I never talk about it too much um we're behind the scenes making sure your kids are good I just want to say we got 100% on our immunizations um for December and then I just had an audit um from Mr Krauss who happens to be a really good friend of of mine as well thank you Jesus when you have ties you know people in high places he came and did our audit and um all our screenings were on point so I just want to thank you nurses are constantly um so I I'm so appreciative for the parenting and my nursing staff um with that being said I have some birthdays today nurse Sheena Miller and my name says I happy birthday way and we
