thank you for coming I didn't hear you good morning good morning everyone good morning guys thank you so much for coming to our third shot of the year it is normally would have been our second but we had to have a couple of extra wins at the beginning of the school year um today we have uh a really great presentation by Mrs Loreno but Loreno Paco on the with the Heritage Youth and Family Services we're going to have butin just come up and give us a little quick information on the Alzheimer's Association we have our social workers Christian and Maria who will be uh discussing some things going out for the holidays and then um our Safety and Security director Mr daglan will come up and end with some of the information on the latest things going on with that so I'm going to go ahead and start since it's already 11:05 um Mrs Pache Google we've got your information ready to go my name is Lorena I am with Heritage Youth and Family Services of Texas also known as America Keepers 1 of our Educators um and first of all I have thank you thank you guys for giving us the opportunity to come and talk to you guys about this program that um we do so much to us um we have been teaching at CCISD with 2015 and um so we have been talking and wondering why it's not in Robson yet so we're both born and raised in Robstown have students and Robson High School have students that have graduated from Rob sell my school um and we we're we still yeah so we need it to our community would mean a lot to us a lot to us um so I'm going to get started on the presentation on our um on Heritage keepers our mission is strengthen the character of America's adolescents in our communities our goal is to provide students with clear and accurate information about the realities of sexual activity and the benefits of building Healthy Families while also addressing the consequences of engaging in Risky behaviors such as drug use alcohol use and dating uh we were founded in 1995 and we focus on changing the behaviors that to miss the actions instead of only addressing the consequences Heritage Keepers was originally reviewed and approved your medical accuracy by the Health and Human Services office in 2008 Heritage Community Services establish Heritage Youth and Family Services of Texas in 2015 in order to provide options education for middle school and high school students in the postal ban region so just a fun fact about how this um curriculum came to Texas um it was she was just a mom who um was concerned about the ed that was being taught at her children's school so she went before the board and brought it to their attention and then she was assigned she said they they brief and they they assigned her to to find a new route and we program the curriculum for for the schools um so she did her research she went through many programs to find a holistic program um we are not a class we are a sexual risk avoidance class okay so there's there's that we want to address those situations before those negative consequences come so it's a it's a a behavioral change um the Medical Institute a nationally recognized agency specializing in providing medically accurate information related to teen has reviewed and certified Heritage Keepers as medically accurate each year since 2013 as you can see recommends that evidence-based programs be used for team pregnancy prevention Heritage Keepers is on their Federal list as evidence based Heritage Keepers is funded through the title by breath so what that means um for Robstown is that we come in at no charge there's no charge to the school we come in with our our trained Educators we come in with our materials our books books are for the students to keep writing um the only thing that we request from Robstown is um of course the a lot of time um we would need uh ah ah um a representative is full representative so and that's for the protection of first and foremost the students because of this the sensitive topics that are discussed we need protection for the students and then for Robson ISD as well as Heritage Keepers so we will our educators will never teach without a full representative password you guys provide different personal teach yes yes our our educators are already um Sr SR8 specialist appointment in 2011 Heritage Keepers underwent an evaluation 2215 middle and high school students in 41 South Carolina schools in urban Suburban and Rural communities participated in the study was reviewed and approved by helping Human Services and made it to the list of proven effective team pregnancy prevention programs a year after Heritage Keepers program students initiated at a rate of 67% lower than well matched non-programmed students between 2016 and 2024 we have taught 11,513 students we have listed all of the middle schools that we have taught at since then um and spend high schools as well um but we've also taught summer youth leadership teams in Corpus Christi and in Robstown we have served many students here in rocktown um I was hoping to be able to bring some of the students in so that you can hear from them but um we weren't able to do that but we've always gotten some really good feedback from our students um regardless of where they're from um we've taught students from tuloso vanetti Rockport kingville and even Louisiana during our summer classes we are a 450 minute program um if the school operates on a 45 minute class um schedule the curriculum would be taught in that class period for 10 to 12 straight school days um we also include an optional student survey signed parental consent is required for topics covered and for the surveys um after the 2 week period we are done to the school year and and for your school so we help you guys meet your cheeks um and 2 weeks now if we have to return say we came to teach and say October and only 6th grade was invited for whatever for whatever reason up with an eighth break couldn't be invited we could always come back say in March or April to do something there is an increase in research evidence that young people that initiate sexual activity too early in life are at risk for pregnancy STDs academic underachievement lower self-esteem regrets depression relationship challenges and cyclical familiar complications um uh Heritage Keepers absence education effectively teaches teens that benefits the benefits of avoiding these consequences and the skills they need to abstain from Risky behaviors especially actual activity package Keepers is appropriate for grades 6 through 12 uh it has been approved it has been proven effective in middle and high school students some of the topics covered just for the sake of time I won't read through all these but I I will um just go over some of the highlighted ones um some of the topics that are covered um sexual abuse male and female reproductive system social media dangerous age of consent and laws protecting minors human trafficking STD presentation contraception efficacy compared with abstinence how to abstain from sexual activity creating lists of character traits for person to date versus person to marry uh setting and stating bound against risky behaviors  alcohol drugs vaping Etc uh developing a personal safe plan state boundaries avoid danger they say no and exit we also do some role playing when it comes to that um safe plan continue topics um Optical health is for everyone the H healthy relationships definition of absence benefits of marriage and lifelong commitment the E educating youth on values both worth setting and maintaining risk avoidance boundaries the aid abstaining from Risky behaviors such as drugs drug abuse and alcohol use and the safe plan L love lust and infatuation the difference stop objectifying and stereotyping love less than a fraction is probably 1 of our favorite lessons to teach um the T the anatomy of the body and reproduction information on sexually transmitted diseases h Optimal Health increases self-worth emotional awareness and build strong character again Optimal Health is for everyone Cartage keeper starts the majority of Health Peaks related you were productive Sexual Health it covers many Health cheeks related to Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs injury and violence prevention and mental health anyways um I do have more information on the T um I've got some binders if anybody to um take 1 of those I will be more than happy to give those to you current resources so we do give the students take home sheets at the end of our class uh they're sent home with the students give to the parents and their their structure to help with the discussions at home um we always tell our students take them home to Mom and Dad let them know that hey you know what Mom Dad I know what's up you know and and that'll kind of open the door for conversations to um Heritage has also ran a book for parents that is called  lives and hookups it is available on Amazon okay so at the end of our our program on the very last day we absolutely need to provide us the letter and Anonymous letter we asked them for their feedback we want to know do you like our class do not like our class do you do you like we improve on something what are some topics that we need to cover that teenagers are struggling with right now um it's Anonymous and we tell them to write whatever they like so they'd like to share a couple of these letters with you this is from an 11 year old and sixth grade um this program is great because they made me learn more about my safety when it comes to  also this program taught me to stay away from drugs and how to protect myself from those things our instructors Miss deia Ashley Mike and Julia were so nice friendly and very funny they taught us in fun ways about our bodies and not to have  before marriage now because of this program I am well prepared and aware of the future decisions I will make in my life um and we do try to let in the mood because our topics are very heavy sometimes we talk about things like you know sexual abuse and then um and uh so we try to make it fun but most of all we try to create a safe space for our students to to be able to discuss things with us um this is from an 11th grader I really enjoyed the class it made me think about the consequences of my decisions more deeply and how they will affect my life the lesson I really liked was when we were talking about healthy relationships and marriage it was really important to me because it made me think of what I deserve the teacher is a great teacher her lessons were fun and entertaining good job it made all of those themes more fun with the games we played but keeping the importance and seriousness of the theme last 1 is a this last 1 is a poster board when we have the time at the end of class we let them um Draw a poster board and tell us probably do about safe plan I just want student um put s State your boundaries and you can see that the the character is saying no no no touch this my boundary right you don't this is this is where I don't I don't want um avoid danger so we teach our is that um don't avoid the situation to begin with so for example if you know that your advice to a party and it is unsupervised and you know that there's going to be drugs and alcohol and um vaping you know void that situation from the get-go because we we do talk we never left a whole lesson about consequences and how we don't get to pick our consequences if we take these risky actions we don't get to pick our processes so we go over different scenarios with them about consequences so um that was the AF from we say no um we teach the kids that not to be ashamed of their boundaries whatever that whatever boundaries they choose not to be ashamed of who they are be true to yourself we tell them when you're when you say no you have to no we tell them your facial expressions your body language everything has to match so confidence in the beginning of work to establish the batteries um and if nothing else works we ask them to leave you leave the if you do go to that party and no 1 is respecting your boundaries you need to remove yourself from your situation uh and this is just our contact information so I am the only 1 located in Texas and we're here in Oklahoma City um add Vaseline and Tommy Bryant are located in South Carolina do feel free to um jot down the information I also have business cards if you guys need any more information um but it's a lot of information I wish you could go over all of our lessons with you guys I wish we had the tonight for that because our lessons are really are really um oh yes our parent meetings also we do something similar to this um right be a week before we start traffic and all the schools that we go to we have a parent meeting where we invite and encourage parents to come in um we appreciate parents that want to know we want you to know what we're teaching your students so we want you to come in and we want you to ask questions so it's a parent meeting that's another thing that we would require from Robson is just to use your cafeteria have someone open it about 5:30 p.m. and we are available for that current to answer and give them some information parents all the time because that's 1 of the questions they asked me is what are we showing our kids so it's nothing explicit and we do show a child uh development picture of a video where the see what the baby's developing inside the womb but no body parts know the only body parts that are shown in this and that's it and when we do have the the medicine on having information male and female body parts we separate the male and the females for that class so due to a comfortable and they don't you know they can ask questions that they want so that's 1 of the questions the parents always ask so on the for the female they have questions because as this we're all nurses here and we have stars and they don't know why happening and it's not really our place it's we're we're stuck in place because we don't know exactly how much to say what we should say we have to call Mom and say Hey you know this happening and sometimes you know it's hard because the parent has an educated them for hey this is coming might start at 10 year year olds you don't start um and so it's you know not to talk about you repeat both of the males and the females and my inspiration do you go through everything from um what you use um when that happens we've talked to them that um PMS we talk to them about how to be um um you know it's the question up it can't happen for us we know that no no I was talking to him about this thing so like hey do you ever it what's your face like now you brush your teeth today no so we do have investment on that and I tell them that every day they need to make sure you know take a shower wash your clothes if you have pee because usually we do it and we do it our classes so I explained to them like sometimes you have to wear the same No 1 watch it if for some reason you're watching them do it at home you know watching the scene bring it up just so because we nobody's immune to body work so we talked about that we do talk about that and and we let them know carry a little deodorant with you you know for you don't want we can definitely expose the males are not left out because even though we separate the males and the females we do talk to some males about what's going on in the female body and we talked to the females about what's going on the male body um and yeah yeah not as in debt of course but um the else are curious to you they want to know like why why is this happening to them and we give them a neat illustration you know yes we talk to them about that we tell them we tell them if you see after we we we actually give illustration but is the uterus and we have a red marker and we show them what's happening during the month and we show them how that and then we talk to them about the pains and you know the things that the girls go through and we tell the boys that if you see someone under dirty help them like they're already going through a lot let them know that they're dirty don't let them walk around like that all day you know we we give them we give them that advice as well miss do you teach the classes boys and girls together and then for those situations together with the majority of the right so they go through like the buy whatever like with each other we don't have to do it to each other talk about about yeah the um if if we have the opportunity to separate if we had enough students in 1 class there we have sometimes we have classes that have like 70 students if that happens sometimes we separated we're all over here once upon a time for the entire duration of the day like you know what I mean they're the most part they're mixed except for the the um classes on Anatomy but um when it's possible and the classes are that big we do we do any questions yes I have our binder up front and all our all of our paperwork in there and also I have binders on the takes information that's going to be up to 6 drops down um at CCISD we work we have Leah on with the health department and we work directly with the coaches so we go in to ccic during the uh PE test so instead of going to that's another thing that they have to opt in if they don't opt into this class then they stay in me um but the ones that often come to us during PE for like 2 weeks um 10 to 12 days and then um sometimes it becomes a problem so we try to encourage our coaches to really motivate their students to bring those up and forms and to take our class some coaches had me use um uh grades they'll tell them like if you take this class you know you're going to you're going to get you know 6 weeks or they'll they will do that to get them to take the class um and so and but it would be up to us see if it brought someone to do it like during an advisory period is what I think we discussed at 1 Point uh we that's a possibility too but and then I would be able to include who the uh at that point we have to have a representative in the bathroom when we're teaching um we've had schools have a substitute they'll hire some student because they don't have any extra teachers and Federation of our class you guys we had it growing up back in the 70s and 80s so with that I want to go ahead and come up and start having the speaker and have a play of our delicious food here by our culinary students let's give them a round of applause um our next speaker are you here she has a little bit of information just to share with you guys on some resources on that I know a lot of us have parents grandparents that might also friends and family and it's it gets hard when your caregiver it's it's really hard so thank you Linda for coming hello so my name is Belinda synwin can I contract with different agencies throughout the Coastal Bend and today I'm here representing the Alzheimer's Association I started working with the association about a year ago um we had a lot of services in the Oasis County but most of them were centered in Corpus I come from a rural place I was raised in a rural place it's a very tiny place I don't know if you all ever heard of it it's next to everville where when I grew up it was probably 150 people now there's probably about 50 so I started asking the association that I wanted to expand more to the rural communities of noasis County so I serve uh Robstown Driscoll Bishop I had been recently they gave me the San Patricio County and so when it comes to Alzheimer's disease we usually don't think about the disease until someone that we know is diagnosed you think about it as being somebody else's problem or something that doesn't concern us and then what do we do we start googling right we start googling symptoms we start seeing these red flags and so 1 of the things that I do is I offer care and support so I provide education process and then I also do um support groups for people that have been recently diagnosed and for their caregivers as well another thing that the association is starting to push now is we're starting to want to teach brain health to younger ages school age children um both of myself which are not really in the not spring chickens but you know they haven't put me out to pasture yet so brain helps to everybody and then to kind of touch on the point that whatever affects the heart also affects the brain and so 1 of the things that I did in Iran's chat that was kind of fun was I did this 10 healthy habits for your brain and then I had a contest um so I had the kids drop uh what what but what would your brain do if there was no social media or no TV so they had they drew brains for me and it's not when we're lifting weights some of them are playing volleyball just to get you know the idea that brain health is very important I am going to go over 10 healthy habits but I promise that I'll make it short so the first thing we want to do is we want to want to be challenging your minds so if we're 1 of those like I'm mostly do these presentations for seniors but it's going to go for everybody 1 of those people making small changes so if you want to see what it likes to do word search once in a while try and do a cross the challenges your mind try something different for some of us going back to school is is not an option learning things if you ever wanted to learn how long work Works go on YouTube and just I'm not saying take a partial long more I'm just saying figure out how it works even something as simple as uh watching cooking class Cooking Channel watching The History Channel for 30 minutes every other day anything that want to expand to my we want making these small changes they can reduce the risk of or prolonged of getting a diagnosis because in all honesty if if we're going to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's we're going to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's it's something that's going to happen but we can prolong the diagnosis if we keep up with these healthy the next 1 is we always want to control our blood pressure how many of us in here have high blood pressure so we want to make sure that we're taking our medication same thing with diabetes if we we want to manage our diabetes we want to right so a lot of times what happens is the doctor tells us they want us to get on the diet so we get all worked up about it we go to ptb we buy all of these healthy vegetables and then 2 or 3 days later the vegetables are in our okay so I find it to do this to me so 1 of the things that I like to um advise is start to load start with vegetables that you know that you like and slowly incorporate them into your meals I'm not a broccoli fan I won't eat it if it's double lived in bacon grease I will not do it so I know that going to the grocery store and buying a a bushel of broccoli it's not going to happen for me the other thing is is they they advise for us to eat a lot of Fish and Chicken but sometimes you get chickened so there's nothing wrong with having some Meats beef if it's a leaner cuts and if we have to use gonna strain it pat it as much as you can and don't give that up the more that we get try to give things up the harder it is to keep up with our diet so it's better to put in to focus on what we're putting in rather than focus on what we're taking out um we want to be smoke-free we know that smoke smoking like this effect says we know that secondhand smoke effects is a few years ago they started doing some they started noticing some spikes in the diagnosis in California which we know that California is 1 of the most healthier States and so what they started to figure out was a lot of these folks that were getting their diagnosis were coming downwind from all of those uh wildfires so the smoke that that third party smoke can also affect your brain health we want to get moving again we sometimes we want to start getting it we get excited we want to do all these things if you're not a runner don't try start run and start running the first week right we want to start slowly we want to do some talking if we're not able to do the 30 minutes all at 1 time there's nothing wrong with breaking it down in 10 minute increments don't look at it as what you didn't do look at it as what you did do what you can do so last thing you want to do is get an injury yourself what we're doing yourself and then of course maintaining a healthy weight some of us have been on The Struggle Bus for many years right so we can't expect to lose 20 pounds in 2 months we want to do it slowly research has shown that the it it's slow and steady wins the race when it comes to maintaining weight we want to sleep well we want to make sure that we're getting enough sleep sometimes we get married to our spouses and we have Barts in our eyes and then we realize that they talk too much if not or they talk too much in the morning or they want to sleep with the fan on and you want to see what the fan off you the TV so we have to do whatever works for us so what I also like to um advise is when you're sleeping like if you fall asleep at 10:00 and you're still waking up tired at 8:00 you want to kind of examine what is going on in those 10 hours are you waking up a lot because of a pet is it like the Trap topic out there that we might need to get a noise machine you want to figure out what the issue is and they kind of try to fix it the way you count the last thing I'm going to say is very important for us to protect our heads uh sometimes an Ami joust to the head especially word like in like our 50s that can increase a diagnosis or it can speed up a diagnosis now this time of year um we like to have those pretty rugs that have the conceras right those the most of those roads are not safe so what we want to make sure is you want to use rug tape or duct tape because I've known that a lot of people that have tripped over those rugs because they're not heavy um another thing is once we get to a certain age we right and we want things done like around this time we want to put up the Christmas tree we want to go up in the attic we want to trim raas do you want to put up the lights and nobody listens to us and then so we want to try to find is not safe okay at this age it's not safe for me to be climbing anything because I'm pretty sure you all have find those things and then wondered how you're going to get off not a bone here so that's very important too that we always want to make sure that we protect our heads in the 70s and 80s our parents didn't know better so we would just go around and ride bikes without helmets not put seat belts on but even even a slight car accident towards their brain is job sold it can also increase the diagnosis um I didn't bring business cards and I'm going to tell you why I did it because I always lose other people's business so I did bring a sign in sheet so if you all need any extra any extra information you can just write your emails down on there and I can provide you with any information that you might need I also thought it was important for me to come not just to give the presentation but also to let you all know that I'm in the area if you're on you anybody that needed any type of service that way they can get in contact with me you can get in contact with me and that way we'll start kind of educating people more on brain health I appreciate you having it here thank you we are all their must have been your mom starts to repeat her story and you're like what's going on so that's a great resource to have thank you so much for that I'll have her information as well if you guys need that later so next we have Miss Leon our social worker and Miss Garcia Maria are amazing social workers who have a million titles right now I really appreciate them they do so much for our kids and our staff gonna try and sign thank you so much 1 is it very focus on a little bit um about you know our mental wellness and mental health in the United States I know we covered a bit here a lot through a lot of our community over these this last year so we just wanted to give a couple of pointers um just a couple of reminders um regarding all of our mental uh mental health we that's important just our physical health is important so so we like to call it or I like to call it mental Wellness um we really want to end the stigma that that follows mental health and so we really we were talking to our students for it's like every it's not something that only some people have mental health issues or a mental health diagnosis we should all be working towards having mental Wellness um just like we go to the doctor every year for a checkup it's okay it's good to go to Dr to someone to get a check up on the head up right um it's not something bad that's why these doctors these therapists they have probably just that's why they exist to teacher people are um at their very best and we really want all of our students and families our community members to know it's okay to not be okay so many times it seems as a weakness as some I didn't something wrong where I'm doing something wrong something in my life isn't going well that's why I'm feeling this way that's why this is happening but it's okay to not be okay and and we work together to get you through it and talking about it learning about it is how we end this statement There's No 1 act or we can do and okay everything's you know nobody thinks it's bad anymore it's continuing to talk about it letting students your children your families know based on people's struggle it's okay and and everybody's a racist struggling and we work together to get through it so this just talks a little bit what is mental health right um it says mental health is a state of psychological and social well-being in which a person is able to cope with normal normal stresses of Life work for decades Lee and maintain healthy relationships and really just be part of their community be a productive citizen it affects and shapes the way we think how we feel how we respond to Everyday situations um it says it's not just the absence of illness but the presence of balance self-awareness um and the ability to adapt changes because we all know what we love a good schedule and a good routine that changes at the drop of a hat and having that mental wellness and good mental health gives you the ability to cope with those changes and get back to you and hold so we have some myth versus um I know there's always a lot of misconceptions about mental health um and our well-being so um and so a myth mental health is rare um children and you do not suffer from mental mental illnesses um so these are all men being suicidal means I'm crazy um and you're struggling with mental illness because you're weak so these are all these are negative stigmas um in our with our students or in our community so these are uh the fact 1 in 5 Americans will have a diagnosable mental disorder in their lifetime half of all mental illness mental disorders are uh Discerning before they see through 14 suicidal ideations are most often symptom of depression or related mood disorder suicidal ideations are not common and it's usually admit that once this person is suicidal they will always be suicidal that that is the myth it's usually just a brief period of time factors like trauma genetics injury and brain chemistry are all contributing of mental health issues again it's just being able to educate our students our community um and our staff of what the misconceptions are of Mental Health um and of course there are uh risk factors trauma family history the use of any alcohol or drug uh health child abuse neglect stress those are all risk factors um but just how there are receptors we do also have protective factors to go along with that so being able to have a supportive Network to help you diet and exercise to know what kind of covered a little bit earlier today positive relationships with family access to supportive services and astronomy meet with our students we always try to make sure that they have at least 1 trusted adult that they can go to and the events um they are filling over longer strips um access to Supportive Services we try to have that here in our community especially if I'm just through our counselors or being able to threaten social workers or nursing city um and then we try to get them connected to any other supportive resources we know that everybody has risk factor we can talk about risk factors and everyone has a whole list but everybody has protective factors as well and it's important that we identify those so you know what to lean on whenever you whenever your loved my child lives in whoever it is is going through a hard time is struggling we know okay who's my support team um has my diet changed maybe that's affecting it who can I where the resources that I know are available and we love strong faith it doesn't necessarily mean you have to be concerned religion is just some kind of Faith face or spiritual connection to something and this isn't like a we think this is science is saying when you're connected to some of these spiritually you have um you're able to be more resilient and have a better outcome when in treatment these are some warning signs that we should look for um when we were talking about mental health this isn't saying if you have 1 of these like go to the doctor and get diagnosed right away it's just things that we should be aware of um excessive warning warning sorry warning her fear extreme mood changes avoiding friends changing in um sleeping habits eating habits multiple physical ailments um without obvious causes thinking about suicide school performance nightmares um aggressive behaviors being very like defiant and really the inability to live life and love that's what mental health affects your ability to to maybe like daily be productive um have those satisfying relationships when those start to um decline or you're you're noticing hey I'm not being productive at work my student grades are something's going on that's when we need to okay how do I need to intervene what supports are available how can we help we can't talk about you know on top of our talking about suicide it is a just a problem that we are seeing not just here it's you know Nationwide across the globe the suicide rates are climbing and our community has been impacted my son said I think most everybody uh even if it's not somebody on you personally somebody I know somebody I love has been impacted by losing someone to Suicide um and it's important that we continue talking about it so that way our our people we love know that there's help available so if that is the second leading cause of death um in ages tend to 34 so warning signs when we're talking about suicide um giving away possessions especially their favorite things and my favorite jacket my favorite record CD you know whatever it is um writing about death talking about wanting to hi my name is to kill themselves and sometimes we hear a lot like oh they always talk about it that's just something they say and we think it's not serious because they're always talking about it this is just 1 of their behaviors but research says that the the opposite the more or somebody talks about it the more somebody writes about it is comfortable with the topic the higher risk they are for attempting suicide hopeless changing sorry changing uh in mood and it doesn't always mean like having uh being very sad or feeling hopeless it can be a euphoric um sense like I am just so happy and I come in and I feel like I'm floating and a lot of times researchers or research is saying when somebody has come um like is that piece of their decision to die by Suicide they can see you for it but they already don't pay it I know this is going to end it I'm okay with it so it should be it could be a red flag risk taking behavior is changing isolating themselves making preparations all of these again just because we see 1 of these when somebody does not need that they want to kill themselves but it should be a red flag especially if we're seeing more of them the most important thing is this is not their if I am sad every day or I'm kind of like a Debbie Downer you know like I'm always negative and always think you know that's not going to be a red flag like I always have that negative perspective right but if all of a in I come in and I'm like smiling nothing is bothering me I have that at euphoric experience then like hey or the people around me should be this is not normal from a study something's going on um and that we know our families our staff y'all are great like knowing your students and having their relationships with them so that's 1 of the most important things knowing what their normal is so when something's different you're able to identify it and intervene soon so what to do what can we do uh next obviously to get help call 911 never leave that individual um or student or staff Alone um we always try to hear especially at in our district is to if there was a crisis situation that we don't do it alone we always try to do it in pairs if possible uh also the 9988 sorry that includes you aside hotline you can call that you can text it and you'll be able to communicate with a professional that way obviously 9 911 and Mental Health First uh our district and students are involved currently right now in getting all of um our staff that uh normally interact with students to be trained in mental health first aid and that is to be able to recognize signs and symptoms on top and eating that struggling movement as well and what to do and we are training in our staff but give me like experience maybe you want to see if that we would love to have like different perspective in our classes not just teachers or staff members but our local mental health authority also has classes regularly that that are available and I'm going with facilitator as we speak there's some information for parents if somebody used to I don't know why I talk about it how do I asked about it maybe pointers of where to start the conversation and then here we just listed a couple of self-care um things I know really hard um to not engage in your self care because we're just so busy we're jumping on going on something else happening it can be something really really small 10 minutes a day uh maybe it's 5 minutes a day just another night and we try to debrief at the end of the day maybe the yeah um you know whether it's food exercising think that you can do to make yourself feel better I know sometimes from your physical well-being you know people say exercise for me I don't like to exercise that's not really good but for me my physical is like a physical text sometimes I just need a call or it's just being being alone so being able to find out what works for me want to talk about mental health holidays as magical as the time is sometimes during the month of stress you know whether it's like financially losing our routine or you know now our kids are home and have to go to court be a lot manage um and sometimes we start seeing those symptoms of Mental Health this is for when we are struggling with and so that we wanted to offer Support Services all year round so myself and Miss Marissa are on call situation you know where you can call us and if you need to you know whatever it is try to at least guide you make sure that our students are supported any time that we also have the chance for you on the week yes now yes you can 1 of us wants or we take turns being on call I'm not saying we we will go do a home visit for any kind of situation of like it is for crisis situations but we check our phone regularly and we can if it's not a crisis we can let you know okay hey we're going to follow up as soon as we get to or you know what's in what what are the next steps that we need um I just want to show you our website where we have some resources available this this is a school website so if you go under Department so you can go to Social Work our contact information is right there at the bottom as well our phone number's office cell phones emails and we just have resources here of course we have some stuff on Mental Health Community Resources parent resources self-care um so feel free to grab anything you want if you're looking for something that's not there let us know you can send an email so we can make we want to make sure that everything you could possibly need um is that your fingertips pop up something every day to the community remember stress out go outside the next day put yeah like a tip a little hard through Wellness tip I saw tips you had a whole bunch of them like every other day you could like put out remember this this if you feel this try to do this we can definitely work with our it team and see if how that possible have once in a while I'll put something all the time but I see you guys yeah yeah it's definitely no thank you for that that is an amazing suggestion any questions comments concerns Mental Health First Aid our next training is going to be in January I can get you the date um so are the sessions they can only have like a certain amount of individual so I can get it to you as soon as possible so that way if you're interested we can get you all signed up okay so write down so but I don't want to forget a little bit too trainer instead of 1 it is a full day training it's an entire 8 hours you don't get credit unless you are present the entire time very gently and interactive um but it is it's amazing and you know as long and heavy as the day it is um people always you know you're going to leave and doing but if there's no other questions I'm gonna self-care and eat my plate over there next we have our director of Safety and Security Mr good take everybody can hear normally what we have an after action review they are and we just go over it itself uh we did good we did bad that come up concerns uh the week before that we had a strategy in your community and uh basically what I can it's not going too many details but you know we had an incident here 1 of our campuses lost Beach actually our officer for dealers are going to actually come out with a radio they can turn it I mean from the community uh officers of course all heard it they all responded they were in the area our officers are priority number 1 section of our campuses so officers that could we all went to law speech course our secondary this happened at 3:31 ours is on the campuses that could clear points of law speech you know secondary officer status stay on their campuses until after 4 then they came to the campus again our number 1 priority is the pixel so until that canvas we had to we had many the parents leave that were there in line just to clear it put on a secure I do these all the time so I didn't put any numbers secure why do we put these can't answer why do we put for us a lot fire truck in the buildings but outside of the property is really basically it's in the community so we there's not other kinds it's in the community so we have to play the campus so basically the parents leave you have the kids inside of staff so now we have to make the lead by kids and the parents so we call the parents back we schedule our way so they can go away from the scene anybody for back towards that direction so that 1 staff and student staff were all gone for the schools now we can go help you which also did and I think of course Patrick found the vehicle you sleep on suspect vehicle they were helping people I went to the scene see what I could do over there and then direct officers were needed it was a long day and then officer stayed over because pretty much when I was trying to see once we have anything like this you know we're going to be working very long time and I think the 36 hours of repeating side so we had to help cover calls so we were out there helping PD uh just what they're called because again it's all in our jurisdiction too so we can give a call to that we have a chance um so that night we we cleared about 8 or 9 that night so I go home uh then we start typing is we start getting the messages it's not during school hours so the call is also calling and they're also getting messages so then that pretty says you're not going to be paying attention so I started everything ready for the next day uh I contacted every agency because we talked to you all the time in our area They're Gonna Come they came so far Sheriff's Department DPS involve everybody about not so much of the inner campuses which some of them ended up going you know down just to be in our area just in case again nothing was directed towards our campuses nothing was directed towards our our schools our kids out of everybody involved with this went all the victims are still in the bars everybody was full of aged but they aren't in school not regarding not this year uh Katie did not ever advised me that there was any directed towards the school and they were talking a lot of these people they started making arrests the next morning direct towards the school but again must be the school people wanting to feel safe we didn't put into certain protocols as far as like security guards extra patrols reaching out to other agencies again just precautionary you want everybody I always tell me 1 time here I can only guarantee your kids are going to be safe The 8 Hour 8 to 9 hour Journey outside is you know can't get I don't even want um what how far is the internet oh you're good you know a problem like I said we put our protocols in place that means basically a Situation's happening you put our protocol in place that means we're resolving it and then once you clear that means it's been taken care of that means all stuff is happening the way it's supposed to happen everything's going away somewhere and so it's it's the things that we don't know about the kind of certain part because we don't know how to react to it it's going on we don't know what's going on so whenever you can get an alert you know a whole the secure you know that means system to work with them is that you everything's going the way it's supposed to um so that night I started getting messages about the uh social media response because social media and I think that's you know somebody could how to control social media like really like to know because it goes it just starts middle and like does the pretty much the same for messages of pety was getting that they were taking me and they're staying on the online uh don't really hit till the next morning 10:00 my 12:00 everybody's aware of it everything's it's happening and I can't and I understand that we're getting the same messages too we're reviewing them I'm trying to see if they're credible messages I'm trying to make sure hey are we destroying again have everybody here all right this is already here now it's kind of like well you know we have a wall already around our schools so okay we're gonna we're gonna check on these messages see if there's any anything that makes Incredible which again every time we talked to anybody who showed us a message oh I just saw it so you just told me oh I it's just the message scratched out you can't see where it came from it's just okay so we try to build up a little bit more again not as out of all of the messages we saw could not not not 1 single 1 of those critical and again but we still have to look at every single 1 of them so that that's the other part you know it's social media we saw the same message like in 5 different colors they just kept changing the color on the message again I understand being afraid I I really do because that's just you know I have kids at the school team but at the same time like you said I can guarantee the safety of the campuses the safest place they could have anything in the campus again but again the social media people just depends on how you want to take social media if you want to but again it's it's Gary stuck and it is very very scary stuff but at the same time you know we understand that too we're gonna take everybody and again I was telling the superintendent also if there was a 0.001% chance that a single 1 of those transfers was incredible we went to but again I need I can't just say oh because I'm gonna threaten a message did you look into it now are you looking to why why don't we look into every single message we get we have um well we did because again Peter calls it tells me hey we got something unfortunately take it serious call was calling them see where we're at the status of the case they were telling me so again nothing ever there was no real connection to the school yeah because they were School agent everything's happening outside but when we did learn when we didn't want to put out there was if you have weapons at home please I mean you are all in I would have them in a safe somewhere secure if you don't think your kids know where the gun is they know where the gun is your kids don't I think they don't know their password just be aware of that have that discussion with them uh a lot of these kids have social media please look at your kids social media review it a lot of these is a that ended up you know dealing being involved in it all had very very graphic social media with weapons with drugs and stuff like that they weren't hiding it he said maybe from their parents or whoever was trying to look at it but they had it out there so just monitoring that also if your kids have any the next what's the word you know concerns as far as the motion goes off mental stuff on top of them that make sure they're getting you know the treatment they need or whatever their doctors decide they need to do uh but also let's go have a bunch of resources you know counselors or social workers are great if they need to talk with them first and then whatever they decide probably would be uh advice I would take saying hey this is except for the deal because again there was a lot of the books are reading the times a lot of Pathway to violence right Pathway to violence to wait that was our job is to stop that pathway get somewhere else we can get them to help them eat or intervene as much as we can so we but a lot of things that we're finding is that you know it's a really good at telling us what we want to hear especially we want to hear them tell us that you know oh I said this is 1 Thing okay what did you mean by Audi I was just playing I'm just joking okay we got to go a little bit deeper than that we got no more information you have to see where they're learning after all maybe they have access to a lot of the conversation we have parents the first thing is you know when you got to the house your uncle and Grandma and Grandpa do they have weapons need to know that because you know a lot of the times they're going after the parents too involved you know because your kid does something doesn't mean that the parents not going to give you a dog the many of the wrong things that child also so um again because the website uh we have the quick links we have the my voice I always do the my voice um there's information there sir I wanted to add that 1 of the craziest things that we experienced and we were not I don't think anyone was prepared for it because it's not something that we have been prepared for was the crazy pickup when parents heard stuff on the social media and then you have this line of people I'm really not 1 secretary to check out kids and find the kids in the classroom and find the stuff on there because first of all I have about to go to this none of those kids should have their cell who had never had no like why do you have your phone out because they don't care that's the reason they've been post from school to avoid stuff like this my daughter should not have been testing so I didn't pick her up my dear seats there I'm not going to go out of my way they're fine I showed up she's like we're good I Trust You Lord I'm not gonna send my what is something happens to me standing in the line to get you like y'all get real so but that no but seriously that if she would no they they they started it was real like now it's like you know what I mean that was chaotic and it was and that all hands on deck to try to figure out find kids walk kids down the hallway it was it was awful it was awful day because an awful day yeah that's why I wanted to just just you have our after actually with social media wherever they wanted to think it's real you know however they they took it or how their kids were for it and again I don't want to say that kids ears aren't you know they matter too and and the do they want to take a shot on not nobody to tell them they can but all I can tell I was telling it was uh but again you know it's something that we can learn from how we can approach it next time um again the simple thing too I was kind of confused like I we're getting messages I don't know you have your phone for it that's I don't know I don't know we have a that's why I don't need to I don't even like I see all you have in every period but I went out and talked to some of our parents trying to make sure them them to send this credible evidence of of what we need to talk about talking to us actually I had I got my son and I had to apologize to him I'm sorry I I wasn't scared to go to school scared to get a moment something happened but talk to them about that so that I can see that as principles when kids make bad choices Chief is and this chief of our social workers in here we try and help them but at the end of the day you continue to make them it's like all parents never those kids shouldn't be it or not so he's right he says that most of those kids do except the victim they're not connected to the schools which is almost scary they're not in the school kids continually make that a lot though he he follows a chapter 7 and then as well to make sure that there's a little bit of um it was so bad with pickups that and it can't even get to work done and then like on that Friday we'd have 532 we have so we would like to work with kids anyway but it was hard to have instructions but again please I urge you let us know so I think that night Thursday night we had an email like at midnight we were making a plan at night for the next day and we bring police force to parents and students feel better but I think it almost test on our side I'm gonna tell you on the day that they were picking up I'm like I hope they're staying for the kids I was hoping that I don't claim to every single 1 she wants to go through the computer to buy the classroom she doesn't know when her head 700 kids where where they're at right now at this time in what class of what and it was kind of like they started in and I think we need I wish there was like a gravity show it's starting and it gets to the 8:00 in the morning and you see how it would move and more people starting to see the next video things online and you know the guys at that point and again I got just going back I can guarantee your kids safety at school it's outside the I get it and I want you to understand too that if there was a 0000000 1% chance that there was any threat going to the school that school was there anything I can promise you like I said so anytime anything's going out we're aware of it like it's not working closely with other agencies you know we're going to go into we had DPS is checking on 1 of their July team that they looked into Social Media stuff just to see if we had anything you know we're going to use every resource we have we're going to do everything we can so like I said so the the part where like I guess it's the community part that we can't control so once they leave our was outside the school and that's where we were like if for that whole holiday I was worried because their kids are not in school right now right now they have all the time like to just do whatever they're doing and luckily he you know had 3 arrests by Friday and you know you're pretty but it's like 911 I was a clerk at school what then I thought is that a movie because I see this plane going in the building and my principal was on our office so I went and looked for her and I said what's showing at that moment we get all these messages then we start getting on the phone calls then we start getting all the parents well your kids are safe here even it's happening in the another state but they're going they were going crazy in 911 showing up to the school getting the kids but then we went to a lockdown for a little bit because we didn't know what was happening but if it's going to happen it's going to happen but we just have to assure the parent you're they're safe here because it's a lockdown but it was chaotic even back then Christmas then there's like down 44 and its order and it's another ya you know I don't have social media to stay about uh I heard that there there at our campus entertainment lockdown lockdown and lockdown is the only 1 we should that Danger in place calculation the most part our kids are used to vote like even the so I I try to have a training and help me I feel like everybody always says black now it's not unfortunate fireman everything is a lock down and there's different types of polls like we have to keep or whatever so that's just the holes are to avoid traffic in the halls and to keep everybody in place so that we can address or get them out safely without everybody why I think the world is chaotic right now and everything and anything that anybody says they're going to be overly protective but like I said it can happen if it's going to happen I had just walked out of Walmart when that boy stabbed that kid I had just walked out of Walmart I mean if it was meant for me to be there I would have still been there and it gets scary I get scared I saw the guy in Waco that went into the store into Walmart that my daughter had just left and they killed him right there in front I mean you can just happen you just have to be aware like I tell my kids if you see a fight can you please run out instead of going to see what what's happening no yeah you know you're supposed to run out and not go and see it yes go get help take something's happening over there but don't stay there just like we did I unfortunately definitely we followed this guy and by the time we got there he was in Walmart I'll be shot already I I wanted to shop I just thought there and seeing all these people walking out with bags real slow thinking what just happened here yeah it just things like that that scares the world and there are kids and and then um to our parents that and now we know because of that incident I didn't meet with other agencies on on the images with people with guns right and it's a steal of ours if they have a picture and we usually 90% time it's usually you don't but we'll go to the house tell the parent while we're there ask for the consent and let us search check is that if it's not 1 of our students so we have no charge to the child now we can't go to our house so I got met with PD I got to say hey this is the image we got this is the kid he's not 1 of ours can we still don't have a conversation they told me no we can't so you have to give them approval to go search right we have to go ask we have with our kids we have to will make contact with the parent last will be protect the resident they usually go with us and then we go check to see the only reason I love you if I die but that's I mean that's probably why we all panics you know because it's like Mom please there's anything you should be so and so sad I'm like they don't understand what you can see that they don't need to use that's what I try to explain her I was like they know more than you think you know they go on to your socials they know they know that something's gonna happen what was it I trust this call as a mom you get it in you're like oh my God I gotta go get it I was like I was James I'm going out of my way so he's like that's that's I mean I believe we're talking and then she tells me when I get out of school oh I was just putting it heavy so you come pick me up early I'm like really like and then I was more I said now you're going to school Friday and I'm like yeah that's what my friends and I was the only 1 in the country yeah you're all my thought and now if it works very fearful of course but um that was the main thing for English making me feel you know it's verifying I mean I went to the store who's there and starts my friend I was like I trust your word you have to stay on the line she's like no friend she's safe here now when she's out of her so she's she's yours we I mean what's your safety first okay and I want to wait and I said last time you're completely fine I walked away I went back home knew I was doing I said okay pick up I get to okay did I hear anything after that no here oh my God I love you know it was done like it was done like you know what next time I can take it off because I don't like it at all and then she goes to school the next day and every Castle can't 4 Kids like I was gonna add to what she was saying and I think it was just she she messaged me and she said no I'm fine I'm not I'm not afraid but then she messaged me later and she told everyone's yes they started seeing Heather like oh everybody's worried about and then she certified anything happen like that no but I want to talk what was the age of the students and what grade level what examples of see from that afternoon at 3:30 we had drama so we have drama with um fifth grade students up to 8th and um they were we have an open patio drama class so we had drama 3:30 so the students that were getting picked up were bundled to cafeteria during the route system and the majority from fifth grade Auto all of fifth grade through eighth grade were in the patio then I heard the sirens and uh so something's going on but I just thought it was in the adults residential area so um if it goes between St Anthony's and lot speech and then um I get off at 4 and I have to go home and make this as soon as I stepped off campus I got a text message friend of mine that worked at Las Vegas she said there was a shooting um she said you're our campus but again I just thought it was um in the residential area so I just kind of blew it off and then that evening at 6 oclock had to go I have my grandbaby that attends St Anthony school but 6 I want to go pick her up and um and between that time I never got a notice like to do an alert saying that they were on secure um because we usually do get a a notification from the police department that there's something going on in the residential area and we go on to pick your up and I said I guess because it was at 4:00 classes are dismissed we did not get an alert that's what I assumed and then um I picked up my grandma maybe at 6 oclock and I told her um will you as the students informed that's going on and she sent off to Google what's going on I said don't want to begin but the students never knew fun of the students and none of them were picked up by our parents none of them would pick up by um yeah of the so it's considered like an after school thing right that's why we get so that's the thing they are our doesn't matter before school during school after school they can always go into effect and I think they may not know that you have people after your after school so you may want to get in contact with hey just if you ever get anything please call me just let me know because we may have people on our account yeah we have a few play um next week and so they had already started it just it just easier it's always it's always on I would like to just share with you that we teach it all in the middle schools and high schools and and um and it's you see the same effect over there too it's happened we saw it happen at Miller where there was in a student that happened and it was very similar to what happened here so I just think that I think everyone's doing the best that they can and these situations and I mean it's just like someone over there said like if you just living in fear nowadays with the things that are happening around us and and I just think that they can do you see it CCISD as well it's not just it annoys me when people say you know Rob's that it blows up you know because it happened in rocktown it's happening everywhere we see it everywhere give me an answer so it and I promise you there is no 1 make sure that we get the agency and I love that it's our safety updates because we want our families to know that we are prepared these are good district for any kind of situation to keep our students safe because we know that they're gonna be scared we might not be able to say this is everything that is being done to make sure that you guys get to go back to share this with your friends and your family because you heard it from him from us try to be very transparent and that's the reason that I invite them to come and to talk to you about these things because I know you have questions like you know I know that you have all these fears and worries and thoughts and stuff so you get to hear kind of a little bit on the inside what goes on with their departments and the way we all collaborate together as a team um and we do the best that I wonder it's teachers are custodians you know everybody maintenance um everybody gets together and Rises up to the front I don't I don't think it's like oh well that's the secretary's job or whatever know when in times like that you your children just rally that's why that's true on the social media it was more the parents it's the same parents that anything that that was once come in through my PE not the kids so you need to represent yeah yeah all that taken serious nobody wants another incident in any school ever again it happened but again I only know the stuff I know if somebody sent it to me then I will do everything I can to look into it but if I don't know it there was people just spreading it and usually that's the kid part that they they get the threat and they spread it to other people instead of sending it to the people that need to look into it they just spread it out there again again but again we're parents need to look into their social media make sure what they're looking at what they're putting on their what they're posting it reduces something great make sure we we report it to the agency again if they are instead of processes and they aren't so kind of issues that they have make sure they're being seen by whatever they need to see if they need to see somebody to scroll we are pretty people yeah Administration it's definitely not and as far as in the next level 1 everything was very controlled it's everybody everybody I think that was like 4 580 I think even Tracy showed up to go help with with the checking out and again I can't stop any I kept telling everything to compare the came in there's nothing going on here but parents and parents so they show I feel like 2 to 3 minutes that's I think they're all ready to pretend all right thank you all for everything and
